Kiwanis Show History

When a group of local people formed the San Carlos Kiwanis Club in 1947, their objective was to make our community a better place in which to live. The idea of a community variety show developed to become the Club’s primary fundraising effort. In this way, the Club’s tradition of service and entertainment was started.

We have come a long way since those early shows, but the objective of making our community a better place in which to live is as much a part of our 2011 Kiwanis Club as it was nearly 65 years ago. This is what Kiwanis is all about, local people helping local people. Over the years, our club has left some very visible marks on our community – to name a few – the Kiwanis Building at Burton Park, the Senior Center Van, and the $30,000 donation to the City of San Carlos to build an athletic field at the Highlands Park site. Our club also promotes autism awareness, sponsors youth sports teams, provides college scholarships and other funds for community youth, and provides food for many senior citizens in our community.

But it is our involvement with you that is most important to us. We hope we have sponsored an activity in which your child has participated, or helped one of your senior neighbors who needed assistance, or supported the academic award that your child achieved. Perhaps we even served your dinner at our Hometown Days Dinner.
